Green Bean's Birthday Top 5
Green Bean Studios founder and multi-award-winning author, Anita Frost, has nearly 20 years of experience in child development, creating curriculums and learning resources for children from birth up to primary school age. Harnessing this expert knowledge, she developed the Green Bean Collection – a series of educational books, toys, games, and entertainment media for young children – using elements of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) statutory framework to enable children to, learn, develop, and reach their full potential. Our characters each have unique personalities which support children’s early development and relate back to the EYFS statutory framework. The framework is a set of standards issued by the UK government that all early years providers must meet to ensure children learn and develop well. It also ensures that all children are healthy and safe, and gain the knowledge and skills needed to start school. Green Bean Studios promotes the seven key areas of learning and development in the EYFS. We have carefully developed our storylines and characters to support the three prime areas that are crucial for igniting children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, which are:
Helping Children Learn Through Play The Green Bean Collection contains a range of collectable books, toys and games designed to help young children learn key skills and support their early education. We have incorporated elements of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) statutory framework into our collection, to promote the seven key areas of learning as set out in this framework. Our board books for babies and toddlers contain bold colours, interesting illustrations, and lift-the-flap features which help engage young children and encourage their natural curiosity. Green Bean’s Shapes has been designed to stimulate a baby’s vision by using black, white and red. Green Bean’s Numbers teaches number recognition through observational learning, and each number comes with isolated objects to reinforce this. In Green Bean’s Colours, bold colours on each page help to familiarise younger children with everyday colours. Within our paperback books, aimed at children aged 3+ years old, we have developed a unique way of positioning the words on page, making it easy and engaging for young readers to digest and start to recognise letters and words. The illustrations work alongside the stories to help children understand the words used from their context and begin to associate meaning with different objects and scenarios. Our stories are full of exciting adventures and interesting characters with unique personalities, helping to develop creativity and imagination in children, but also help them to understand the world around them and their own identity and place within it. The books encourage good personal, social and emotional development by building confidence and self-worth in children. When reading with a caregiver, the stories help to promote good mental health and wellbeing for children by nurturing feelings of connection and closeness. Sharing our stories in this way supports a love of reading and learning from a young age, setting children in good stead for starting school and the classroom environment. In addition to our books, we have developed a range of educational toys and games to support and enhance children’s early learning. When played with in addition to reading our books, children are further encouraged to enjoy reading and explore their own creativity through imaginative play. Our games include card games, jigsaw puzzles, and a pop-up house, which all help children’s physical development, such as fine motor skills, as well as spatial awareness, observation, memory, and recognition of numbers and letters. Through interacting with our toys and games, children also develop skills in communication and personal, social and emotional aspects such as turn taking, teamwork, coping with emotions, and how they fit into the world around them. Our toys encourage children’s creativity by presenting opportunities for role play. The soft toys in our range are great tactile tools which are particularly soothing and comforting for ‘high-mobility’ children to help them stay calm and focus. How our Music Supports Early Years Education
Music plays an important role in early years education and child development. Green Bean Studios is excited to be creating new musical productions which help support children in their early learning. As well as being a way for children to express themselves and be creative, music helps support key areas of learning in the EYFS statutory framework. Through our music we help children develop physical skills such as coordination, spatial awareness, motor skills, and copying. This is done through songs with actions, repetition, and energetic beats which encourage children to dance, and using different instruments and sound makers to play along with the music. As well as supporting physical development, music also brings many social and emotional benefits for young children, helping them to feel confident, building self-esteem and growing towards independence. Our music helps children to develop speech, language and listening skills by showcasing educational themes and new vocabulary which is delivered in an upbeat and catchy way to maximise knowledge retention. Music helps to build social skills such as turn taking, anticipation of what others are going to do or say, inviting social interaction and helping children to feel comfortable contributing ideas in a group, which prepares them for starting school and being in a classroom environment. Our music encourages children to harness their own musical creativity by inviting them to compose their own music, or add to the music being played by improvised clapping or making other sounds in time with the beats. Children are presented with a broad range of topics within our music, helping them to explore complex themes and emotions in a way that is accessible and engaging. Our music helps children to understand themselves and reflect on how they are feeling, to nurture positive mental health and wellbeing. Instrument use enables children to develop skills in expressive arts and creativity, whilst improving their fine motor skills and gross motor skills, as well as coordination, and listening skills. We encourage children to use a range of different instruments to compose their own music and express themselves creatively using a variety of instruments, as well as different objects such as those found in nature. This allows them to explore how music can be made using conventional instruments but also by using natural resources outdoors.
