Through play, Green Bean fosters learning, social-emotional development, and healthy, sustainable living. **Child-Led Play Makes a Peaceful Day**
Child-led play offers numerous benefits, notably in developing problem-solving skills. It's a child's first experience with decision-making and lays the foundation for future education and work. Play empowers children to lead, experiment, make mistakes, and learn from them. Constant adult control hinders children's ability to practice independent decision-making. Child-led play, where children have full control over their play's direction and outcome, is crucial for boosting confidence, creativity, and innovation. Incorporate at least 15 minutes of child-led play into your daily routine, and you'll likely notice a significant improvement in the child's positive behavior throughout the day. Consistency is key. Inform the child a few minutes beforehand, e.g., "When the timer goes off, it's our time to play." For babies up to 18 months old, offer three toys and let them choose which one to play with. For children 18 months and older, use a timer or designate a specific time for child-led play, such as after tea. Fun Nature Books for Kids' by the Green Bean CollectionOur Green Bean Books feature an interactive format that encourages children to engage with the text and pictures, while the search-and-find element helps them develop observational skills and attention to detail. These books are also a great way to introduce young children to new vocabulary and concepts, such as numbers, letters, and the world around them. Nestled amongst the beautiful green fields of Adventure Dales, you'll find a new friend waiting to play, learn, and have fun with you. We've enjoyed visiting schools and libraries, and connecting with both new and existing fans. We were especially thrilled to have Sarah from Wigan join us this week. Sarah, who was born partially deaf, has learned Makaton and British Sign Language (BSL) through the NHS since she was two years old. We're excited to announce that Sarah will be joining the Green Bean team this year as a Precious Moments Ambassador. She'll be supporting our fans at storytime by accommodating children and parents with additional learning needs and teaching all children about different forms of storytelling. National Storytelling Week 2025 runs from Saturday, February 1st to Sunday, February 9th. You can participate by downloading our Green Bean resources. This wonderful annual event celebrates the power of sharing stories. Stories teach us about the world, foster empathy, provide relaxation and escape, and help develop essential literacy skills and school readiness. The theme for National Storytelling Week 2025 is "Reimagine your world." The world around us is full of secret lives, places, and possibilities – from unexpected encounters on the way to school to strange sounds at night or unexplored paths. The most extraordinary stories can come from the most ordinary places; they just need someone to discover them.
