The Current Landscape: Why Early Literacy Matters

It was a pleasure attending the "Turning the Page: Strengthening Communities Through Literacy" event as a National Literacy Trust signature partner! Wonderful takeaways seeing how much great work is happening with regional and local businesses, charities, and leaders coming together to galvanise change.

Despite incredible work happening across local communities, early childhood development challenges remain pressing:

• Over 2 million children in the UK currently experience language and communication delays.
• Over 1 million young people are currently not in education, employment, or training.
• Rectifying these early developmental, speech, and social care challenges costs the UK economy £17.8 billion annually.

Inspirational contributions from key speakers—including Helen Hayes MP (Chair of the Education Select Committee), Lucy Thomas (KPMG), Dan Scroggie (The Very Group), Ceri Berkovitch (National Literacy Trust), and Gareth Snell MP (Chair of the APPG on Literacy)—reinforced that tackling these hurdles requires a truly collective effort across business, education, and community spaces.
