However, this is not the norm. The usual age for a child to start reading is around the age of five. And there's nothing wrong with waiting for your child to be older before beginning with reading lessons. A 2-year-old can learn to read. Success requires patience, gentle repetition, and dedication from parents. Keep in mind that there are no hard-and-fast rules of when a child should start reading because kids' language development varies.
