Find A Love for Writing With Green BeanKids Creative Writing SheetsLatest research reveals a troubling decline in children's enjoyment of writing. Last year, we recorded the lowest ever levels of writing enjoyment since our records began. This year the picture is even worse. Less than a third of children and young people enjoy writing in their free time, and only 1 in 9 are writing daily. High numbers are leaving primary and secondary school without the literacy skills they need to thrive and children’s futures are being put at risk.  National Literacy Trust Jonathan Douglas, CEO says: “It is now time to provide children and young people with more meaningful opportunities, both in and out of school, to reconnect with the creative elements of writing which transform it into an enjoyable activity that allows for self-expression and that works as a tool to process struggles, make sense of the world and participate actively in civic life.” National Literacy Trust is calling on the incoming government to ensure that creative and expressive writing are embedded in the Department for Education’s forthcoming writing framework in order to help more children discover a love of writing which can ultimately transform their lives. Storytelling is an integral part of being human. Sharing stories helps us connect to our past, portray life’s diverse and rich experiences, and explore our own unique creativity.
National Storytelling Week takes place from 27 January to 4 February 2024, celebrating the power of sharing stories. This annual event highlights the importance of storytelling and all the benefits it brings.
Stories teach us about the world, helping us to see new perspectives and empathise with others. They support our wellbeing, providing entertainment, escapism, and acting as a mirror through which we can better understand ourselves and others.
